Attention Chester Upland Educators!

The Chester Upland Education Association (CUEA) reminds all Pennsylvania-certified educators to review their Act 48 professional development records and ensure that all required continuing education credits and supporting documentation are current.

Maintaining your professional certification is an important responsibility. Staying informed about your Act 48 requirements can help prevent unexpected certification issues and ensure that your professional development efforts are properly recognized.

What Is Act 48?

Pennsylvania’s Act 48 requires most educators holding active Pennsylvania professional certificates to complete 180 hours of approved continuing professional education or six college credits, or an equivalent combination, during each five-year compliance period.

These requirements help educators maintain their professional knowledge, develop new instructional strategies, and strengthen student learning.

What Should You Do Now?

CUEA encourages educators to take the following steps:

  1. Check your Act 48 status. Visit the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Act 48 reporting system to verify your current compliance period and recorded hours.
  2. Review your completed professional development. Confirm that eligible workshops, training sessions, courses, and other approved activities have been reported.
  3. Gather supporting documentation. Keep copies of completion certificates, transcripts, and other records verifying your participation.
  4. Address missing credits. Contact the approved professional development provider if completed activities are not reflected in your record.
  5. Confirm applicable deadlines. Review your individual Act 48 compliance deadline and follow any documentation submission instructions issued by the Chester Upland School District.

Why Is This Important?

Failure to meet Act 48 requirements may affect the active status of your Pennsylvania professional certification.

Taking a few minutes to review your records now can help you identify missing information and address potential issues before your compliance deadline.
